The situation in a lot of areas is changing quickly, try to bear that in mind.

We also can't afford to to have everyone respond this way. I get some people moving, I really do, but often enough they're able to pass legislation like this by dint of gerrymandered state legislatures in areas that just arten't as red and hopeless as they'd like you to think they are. Every blue voter that leaves the state just gives them surer margins for those two senate seats that represent smaller and smaller fractions of the national electorate with just as much say as the senators from N.Y. or California, say.

I always thought it was a bit paradoxical the way abortion fell on the line. Being pro-choice seems to fit great with the fuck off government don't tell me what to do, don't regulate my guns, don't regulate my body approach that the right seems to have (though I do think this mentality has changed a lot in the last 10 years).

On the same token being pro-life seems a great fit with the left wing. It goes well with the regulate things for everyone's good, medical mandate, more government control approach of the left.

If you where to show me each parties platform without abortion, and tell me to guess which side would be prochoice, and which would be prolife I think I would get it wrong.

The republicans have never been about that. Reagan signed one of the first gun control laws as Governor of CA. The NRA supported it! This was because it was targeted at black panthers by banning open carry of long guns, which the Panthers practiced at their rallies. The want laws to protect them and punish the other. It's just that simple.

That you think providing healthcare for everyone is unpopular is very odd. It is another thing popular across party lines.

I think if you understood the platform and not just read words on papper it would be easy.

Your axis is wrong. Republicans are, generally speaking, not really defined by being in favor of smaller government. The “small government” bit comes into it mostly in fiscal matters. Outside those, they generally favor small government for things only as they negatively impact straight white men. You mention abortion, but what about: marriage freedom, support for a heavily armed police state(note the exceptions to that support to see a pattern), criminalization of drug use(and note the exceptions for alcohol and tobacco, and the primary racial groups who’ve historically used other drugs to see a pattern there).

Of course, not all republicans support such positions, but enough of their base does that those carry the day.

There's pap tests(which is a type of cancer screening, breast cancer exams, birth control consulting so that you can avoid unwanted pregnancies in the first place. There are so many thing that can go wrong with female plumbing, fibroids, endometriosis, infections, STD's. You know what guys, just stay out of our healthcare and don't make us wear scarves on our heads. The Catholic Church is pro-life and the biggest supporter of pregant women who need help and support. Catholic charities are always available to help with raising the child (diapers, extra funds, cradles, toys, clothes, mental health support) or to provide a free C-section to a woman who wants to give her child up for adoption. Catholic-run hospitals are sanctuaries to pregnant women about to give birth but with little to no money and provide such c-sections for free by the charities and accept giving up the baby on the spot. Furthermore, Catholic orphanages and foster homes are incredible in helping children grow up in good homes, as well as finding them families.

In addition, Catholics are the most likely to adopt out of all people in the US. Your argument that pro-life people don't care about children after birth is false. Catholics are probably the most pro-life group in the US and are they most generous and hospitable to children and mothers who need help as well as adopting many children. We believe all life is a gift from God and should be treasured. Life begins at conception and a person is a person no matter how small or who their father is.

The FBI is part of the Department of Justice, which is part of the executive branch, which is led by the President. Ultimately, yes, the FBI answers to the President. There's no separation of powers issue here. The legislative branch (Congress) creates the laws and the executive branch (the President and the Cabinet and their departments) enforces the laws.

In reality, Biden doesn't have anything to do with something this small within the FBI. It's a clear cut case anyway. The DoJ is supposed to run relatively independently of the White House because of issues of conflict of interest, especially political investigations (not that they shouldn't happen, but that it shouldn't look like the President is going after their political opponents).

Ultimately, the idea that this guy being arrested by the FBI is the victim in all this is grossly and wildly incorrect, but they aren't mistaken about how the government works.

Romero announced that Mark Houck, 48, of Kintnersville, PA, was charged by Indictment with a violation of the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act, which makes it a federal crime to use force with the intent to injure, intimidate, and interfere with anyone because that person is a provider of reproductive health care. The defendant was arrested and made his initial appearance in federal court on these charges earlier today.

According to court documents, the defendant is alleged to have twice assaulted a man because he was a volunteer reproductive health care clinic escort. The charges stem from two separate incidents both on October 13, 2021, which occurred at the Planned Parenthood Elizabeth Blackwell Health Center on Locust Street in Philadelphia, where Houck allegedly assaulted the victim, a 72-year-old man, identified in the Indictment as “B.L.,” because B.L. was a volunteer escort at the reproductive health care clinic. In the first incident, B.L. was attempting to escort two patients exiting the clinic, when the defendant forcefully shoved B.L. to the ground. In the second incident, the defendant verbally confronted B.L. and forcefully shoved B.L. to the ground in front of the Planned Parenthood center, causing injuries to B.L. that required medical attention.

I have protested outside of Planned Parenthood before. One of the first things is that you remain on the sidewalk not blocking any entryways and you don’t commit any violence. That is for protestors and counterprotestors or just a general rule of thumb at any public gathering.

I was more active with the Cincinnati Right to Life in 2014ish (I live in Northern Kentucky). I still believe abortion is murder, but a lot of groups have sold their soul to Trump at least if not entirely, then “we have to vote for the Republican candidate no matter what.” That is a bullshit argument, and there are times when as a Republican, I must vote either Democrat or Independent. I believe that in some races, I am living in that time right now.
