Keep up the great work, both of you. It think it was at about that point that sobriety started to feel like it was normal for me.

To paraphrase a fake quote: “When I’m in a slump, I comfort myself by saying if I believe in random Internet strangers, then somewhere, they must be believing in me. And if they can believe in me, then I can believe in me. Then I bust out.”

Well, here’s a random Internet stranger believing in you. Can’t wait for that 90 to become 900.

u/migueljayzorro Sep 25 '22

You know what the worst part about being sober is? Absolutely nothing. Enjoy your new life!

6

u/GeraldBrennan Sep 25 '22

Coming up on 18 years and I'm so glad I did it...but I really had a lot of help along the way! Keep it up!

9

u/Elena_1966 Sep 25 '22

I am 20 years smoking free. Haven't put a cigarette in my mouth since the age of 35. It's awful, I went from one unhealthy habit to the next instantly, basically.

4

u/ddd615 Sep 25 '22

Thanks for sharing. I know it's giving some people hope. 👏👏👏

2

u/Iscariot1945 Sep 25 '22

You're doing a remarkable job. Keep it up! You're going to make it!

2

u/Seven_Suns7 Sep 25 '22

You know when a person really committed when a list is handwritten into existence to be checked.

Hey, I spent much of my life letting alcohol destroy everything. Ninety days is no joke. I'm very proud of you. I'm three years sober, and my life has never been better. After a while, you won't even think about it. I have a tip for you. It might not work for you, but it works for me.

When you crave alcohol, don't drink a non-alcoholic beer. Don't try alcohol-free alcohol. It's too close to the real thing and not worth the risk. Instead, drink kombucha, and when you go out, and you can have it under control enough to hit a bar or restaurant with a bar. There is no shame in getting a virgin margarita, a Shirley Temple, or a virgin pina colada. Don't let anyone make you feel weird about not drinking with that in your hand people usually don't make shit awkward they just assume you are drinking too.

2

u/Zootropic Sep 25 '22

Meanwhile I’m escalating my drinking of mixed drinks from sat night only to random weekdays.

2

u/sir_gwain Sep 25 '22

You’ve got this man. Getting sober isn’t easy, keep pushing, you’re doing great and it’s definitely worth it. You can only be proud of how far you’ve come as we all are

2

u/SnowDoom6 Sep 25 '22

I've been alcohol free for around three years. With an eight month clean run before that. I'm in my 20's. I drank heavily for several years. I haven't felt the need for it in a while and my body's chemistry is back to normal. I've found interest in my old hobbies and I no longer make impaired judgement bad decisions. I feel much better without it and I'm sure you will too.

2

u/willpowerpt Sep 25 '22

Congrats Elena. I just passed 33 days. We may be separated by distance but we're all in this together.

2

u/that_other_goat Sep 25 '22

2

u/Designer-Welder3939 Sep 25 '22

Good luck! Remember that cravings are normal. Try to replace those cravings with something else that’s healthier.

u/Ko_ogs72 Sep 25 '22

u/shortoldfatbaldfuck Sep 25 '22

Just always remember : you will lie to yourself. You will say " one drink doesn't matter" . You will yearn for your former life. I got to one hundred days three times before finally breaking through. Twenty years sober, with one big re-lapse when my father died. STAY STRONG. BEST OF LUCK.
